Leonard Miele, author of the book

Voice of the Tide, The Cape Cod Heritage of Katharine Lee Bates

will be at the library with a slide presentation entitled

"Katharine Lee Bates: Beyond America the Beautiful".

Mr. Miele will discuss the early Cape Cod years of Katharine Bates and her career as an English professor at Wellesley College. He will also explain the social, economic and political issues that influenced the writing of America the Beautiful. He will share some of Bates' poems which are rarely seen by the public.

A question and answer period will follow as will book signing...we have books available for purchase at the library. Light refreshments will be on hand.

A little background on Leonard Miele:

after majoring in English in college, he taught English in the Brockton school system until retiring to Cape Cod after 30 years. Now he writes articles about Cape Cod history, leads historical walks and lectures for the Falmouth Historical Society , and is currently President of the Friends of the Falmouth Public Library.
