Circulation/Customer Service Assistant

Full-time (35 hours per week)
Starting salary: $22.86 per hour ($23.32 beginning July 1)

The Hanson Public Library is seeking a full-time Circulation/Customer Service Assistant. This position is responsible for circulation and public service duties, including checking items in and out, registering patrons, managing holds, answering the phone, and assisting patrons. Candidate must be reliable, flexible, have computer knowledge and excellent customer service skills.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Uses the Library’s computer system to perform circulation duties (checking in and out materials, placing and trapping holds, registering patrons, searching for Library materials, etc.)
  • Manages circulation reports (lost and missing items, patron bills, etc.)
  • Answers patron inquiries in person, via email, and on the phone
  • Shelves materials
  • Assists patrons with using Library collections, services, and technology
  • Uses Library’s online system for managing museum passes, meeting rooms, events, and Library of Things collection
  • Performs other duties as required

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative, and positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public
  • Capable of dealing in a tactful and courteous manner with a wide spectrum of people in an atmosphere of sometimes noisy activity
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Dedication to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Capable of performing a variety of duties with accuracy, close attention to detail, and good judgment
  • Skilled at moving between tasks with patience, flexibility and ease
  • Experience with operating and troubleshooting a variety of technology and associated software

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and six months to one year of experience in a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification and experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers and technology required
  • Familiarity with SirsiDynix Workflows preferred
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends

Youth Services Associate

Starting salary: $26.40 per hour ($26.93 beginning July 1)

The Hanson Public Library is seeking a part-time Youth Services Associate. This position is responsible for assisting the Youth Services staff with providing programs and services to children and teens. Candidate must enjoy working with children, be reliable and flexible, and have computer knowledge and excellent customer service skills.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assists other Youth Services staff in planning, implementing, and supervising programs and services for children and young adults
  • Participates in publicity efforts and creating digital content such as social media posts to promote the Library and its services
  • Answers patron inquiries in person, via email, and on the phone
  • Assists patrons with using Library collections, services, and technology
  • Staffs the circulation desk and performs circulation duties as needed

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include but are not limited to:

  • Associate’s degree required, bachelor degree preferred
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification and experience
  • Experience working with children and teens
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers and technology required
  • Familiarity with SirsiDynix Workflows preferred
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends
