Notary Services

The Hanson Public Library offers notary services to the public free of charge during most of the library’s open hours. We do not require appointments, though we strongly encourage confirming the availability of the notary by contacting the library at 781-293-2151 or info@hansonlibrary.org. The following guidelines apply:

  • Prior to meeting with the notary, please fill out all portions of the form except for the signature/date portion. We cannot notarize documents that have been signed in advance.
  • All signers of the document must be present for notarization and must provide valid, government-issued photo identification.
  • We are unable to notarize documents which require legal or financial expertise: deeds, wills, trusts, immigration forms, I-9 forms, powers of attorney, mortgages, or other real estate documents.
  • Some public documents cannot be copied and notarized, such as birth, death, and marriage certificates.
  • The library does not provide witnesses for documents.
  • At this time, the notary is only able to notarize documents written in English.
  • In accordance with Massachusetts Notarial Law, notaries will not provide service if the customer, document, or circumstances of the request for notary service raise any issue of authenticity, ambiguity, doubt, or uncertainty. In this event, the notary may, at their sole discretion, decline to provide notary services.
