Monarchs & Milkweed

Presentation: Saturday, August 17 at 10:00am
Field Experience: Saturday, August 24 at 10:00am

Join the Mass Audubon for a 2 week series on Monarchs and Milkweed! How do Monarch Butterflies fly 3,000 miles to Central Mexico each fall? In New England, monarchs arrive in early June, building their numbers until their iconic fall migration. Learn about the life cycle and adaptations of these amazing creatures, their tight relationship to milkweed plants, and the fascinating phenomenon of monarch migration.

The first session of this 2 week series will be a presentation at the Hanson Public Library on Saturday, August 17 at 10:00am. The second session of this 2 week series will be a field experience at the Maquan School field (location subject to change depending on summer milkweed and goldenrod growing conditions) on Saturday, August 24 at 10:00am. You do not have to attend both sessions. While this 2 week series is open to all ages, the presentation portion might be more appealing to children ages 9+. Sign up for the field experience on August 24 here.

The program is sponsored in part by State Aid to Public Libraries.
