Join us in welcoming local high school senior Julianna Lee to the Hanson Public Library to talk about her debut novel We Never Slept After That. Julianna will also discuss the inspiration for her book, her writing process, and how she became an author at a young age.
Copies of her book will be available for purchase and signing.
Book description:
Amidst the chaos of the Kosovo War and the turmoil of communist-era Albania, two young men embark on their own journeys, fleeing torn homes in pursuit of new lives in America. Dimitri is a Muslim Albanian at the turn of the 21st century, seeking to escape the Serbian-controlled territory of Kosovo after his village is attacked. Gjon is a Christian Albanian living under the repressive government of Albania in the mid-1900s, whose dreams of composing music and writing are clamped by a crumbling Communist Party.
In this historical fiction novel based on true stories, We Never Slept After That tells a tale of loss, family, the struggle for cultural identity, and the unbreakable strength to survive despite it all.
About the Author:
Julianna Lee is a high school senior from Massachusetts. To uncover the often-untold narratives of Albanians in her community and the village of her relatives, she launched an interview project in 2022 during her sophomore year of high school. The result of these interviews, We Never Slept After That is her debut novel.
