Nature Walk at Burrage Pond Wildlife Management Area

Saturday, June 8, 9:00am

Join local naturalist Steve French for a guided nature walk at Burrage Pond Wildlife Management Area in Hanson!

Burrage Pond WMA is comprised of over 2000 acres of forests, marshes, swamps, ponds and retired cranberry bogs. This property has a history that reaches back to pre-colonial times. Indigenous people used this land to hunt, fish and to transit between the Taunton and North River watersheds. In colonial times the once great cedar swamp was used to provide timber and bog iron for construction and creating tools. At the beginning of the 1900’s Albert Burrage ran manufacturing operations on the property prior to transforming it into one of the largest cranberry bogs of its time. Now the area is an import bird and wildlife area. The trails are flat open cranberry farm roads with no elevation changes. The estimated distance round trip is 2.5 miles for this walk.

Parking is available on Hawks Ave (off Pleasant St) Hanson, MA 02341. This program is for adults or teens 16+.
